But, then again . . . . .

Smile for the Camera!

I spent yesterday and today time-keeping at the 24 hour championship, an annual indulgence of meeting many old friends, and a few newer ones, and searching for a lost past. When time-keeping, you have a fairly good idea of what is happening where you are and at the particular time you are on duty. Thus, while I was off duty I was able to get pictures of both the first lady and the first man.

Chris Murray first rode this event 4 years ago when she broke the existing long-standing record by a significant margin, covering a distance of 478 miles. 2 years ago she took the record up to 490, so there were hopes of 500 hundred this year. Sadly, roadworks, combined with 12 hours of torrential rain and flooded roads put paid to that dream. Never-the-less, her 465 mile ride means that she has produced the 3 highest distances recorded by a lady.

In her post race speech, she commented that she tried to thank all the officials she passed while riding but, didn’t mention that she took time to help anyone who pointed a camera at her. During the last hour of her race, I saw her once and took a several pictures; in every one, she is both looking and smiling at me. Thanks Chris; that is very much appreciated.
