Life is a Challenge!

Where is Beauty?

Mr HCB's parents loved their garden. His father did the heavy jobs and kept a wonderful greenhouse (so that's where Mr. HCB gets it from!) and his mother pottered about looking after the flower beds - she liked nothing better than starting a bonfire to burn up the rubbish and the smokier the better - you could do this years ago before people got all worried about clean air! Personally, I think the air is more polluted now - but don't get me started!

When we moved into our house over 30 years ago we dug up a clump of bright red poppies from their garden and lovingly replanted them in ours. They have become even more special as both Mr. HCB's parents have now died and the poppies are something that bring back happy memories of them.

So my question is - where is the beauty?

Is it in the bud, nurtured by the plant, just about to burst, or in the full blown poppy flower with its magnificent colour? Or is it perhaps in the slightly faded flower that is nearly past its best but which has given so much pleasure? Or then again, is it in the seed head with all the promise contained in that?

We all see beauty in different things - in our family, on a friend's face, in a sunrise or a sunset, the sea, a cat, a dog, blossom on a tree, flowers, birds - I could go on - there is so much beauty all around us in this world and we must be careful we don't miss it!

And for those of you going through difficult times and finding life very hard at the moment, don't worry - even with the pain etched on your face, God still sees your beauty!

Walk into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They don't fuss with their appearance-but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. If God gives such attention to the wildflowers, most of them never even seen, don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?
