Glen Callum Bay, Isle of Bute

Probably one of the best days of walking in a long time. A 5 1/2 circular walk from Kilchatten at the southern end of Bute along the coast returning inland past the ruins of St. Blane’s Church.

The sea views were tremendous, islands, mainland and water. Especially Arran which is one of the extras. The weather was perfect. Sunshine, clear skies for most of the day, a cooling breeze and superb visibility. This walk could not be bettered. The other extra is of Loch Na Leighe- Loch of the Healing.

After finishing the walk we called in at the Kingarth Hotel for an excellent late lunch. There was just an hour before we were out again at the pre wedding get together in the Galatea Bar which proved to be a pleasant evening.

Saw many birds today including wheatear, stonechat, swallows, terns, gannets and a buzzard. This morning loads of swifts were scything the air in front of our bedroom window and tonight the bats put on a fine aerobatic performance as the dusk slowly faded.

The weather forecast for the wedding tomorrow is somewhat uncertain, promising sunshine and thundery showers. We’re keeping everything crossed.
