Life after Burradoo, NSW

White-faced heron

The route I most frequently take for my morning walk takes me along a boardwalk across a mangrove swamp before coming out onto the foreshore of the Brisbane Water. This morning I encountered at close quarters this white-faced heron. White-faced Herons are the most commonly seen herons in Australia. They are found throughout the mainland and Tasmania, and most coastal islands. Apparently they can be found anywhere where there is water, from tidal mudflats and coastal reefs to moist grasslands and gardens.
