God and Country of Yesteryear

Soon after I published my blip yesterday, we had a massive downpour. But it cooled down the temps and we slept comfortably without air conditioning. This morning, we got up early, had breakfast, showered and headed to check out another Virginia State Park campground. This one is located in the county where Thomas Jefferson grew up. Turns out both Pocahontas and Powhatan campgrounds are the same distance from home. Always good to look at all our options. Powhatan campground celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and it was well laid out. The bathhouse looks brand new, a major check in the box for us. There are only 29 sites and we documented each, noting our top three. Unfortunately, they are booked solid for our only available week this summer. Hubby checked a Park even closer to home and they have one site that week so he is booking it. Looks like we will be on the road again in a few weeks. Normally we would go to WV but after spending most of June and July up there, my sister plans to stay home in August. We have company from Germany coming in October so we both have to get ready to host them. But I am hoping we can find a week in September to visit the farm. This antique farm truck was on the property of a tiny country church along our route. I can visualize old time summer festivals being held there in the past, those good old days as we fondly call them. We found a quaint cafe in what used to be a gas station for lunch. My chef salad was abundant and tasty and hubby enjoyed his Reuben. This is definitely part of the beautiful Virginia countryside. We stopped for a few groceries on our way back to the camper. Millie was anxiously waiting for us. We skipped pizza last night so I guess that will be tonight’s dinner if hubby gets hungry. Hope your day was fun too. Thanks for your visit. Stay safe. “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.” - Ronald Reagan
