Sydney Harbour Bridge

I was down at Walsh Bay today for a theatre date to see the play On The Beach, based on a novel by Nevil Shute which also inspired a film of the same name. The theatre is near the south west end of the Sydney Harbour Bridge so I took advantage of the location. The bridge is such an icon it's almost a cliché in some situations but I love it.

Commenced in 1923 and completed in 1932, the bridge with its steel arch and granite-faced concrete pylons, carries rail, vehicular and pedestrian traffic. It spans Sydney Harbour from the CBD to the north shore.

The extra is of a painting by renowned Australian artist Grace Cossington Smith. Titled The Bridge In Curve, it shows how the bridge was constructed from each end until they met in the middle.
