The Return of the Sanderlings

An overcast morning gave way to a bright and sunny afternoon much better weather than had been forecast :-)

Looking for any positives while walking along the shoreline these days has been almost an impossibility so it was a delight to see the return of the sanderlings. They cross the North Sea to Scandinavian coastlines for the breeding season. They were digging deep into the sand for their evening meal. Lovely, too, to see them sporting their summer colours which will fade over the coming months with the brown tones disappearing altogether.
