Life after Burradoo, NSW

Golden stone

I have always loved sandstone and the way it glows in the sunshine. This is Sydney Basin Hawkesbury Sandstone. Six kilometers of sandstone and shale lie beneath Sydney. In the early days of the European colony sandstone was an accessible and highly favoured building material, as is evident in our early public buildings.

At Ettalong these sandstone blocks have been used as a safety barrier along the beach wall (see extra).
