Time to say goodbye

Last night the Trumpet and Organ concert in the old church was very well attended and it was excellent. The trumpeter performing last night is the the principal trumpeter from the Basel Symphony Orchestra and he was excellent. It was very interesting having Tommy at the concert (as he is a trumpeter) to give his opinion on certain things about the various trumpets that were played, and how his style is more Germanic compared to English trumpeters (things like playing with less vibrato which is a common difference). The organist was also excellent, he played on the main organ and also a small one that is 330 years old! We also saw a few friends and familiar faces at the concert and so it was good to catch up.

Today the forecast was for rain for most of the day, but it was actually dry. Gavin and I went for a walk into the village and along the river, then had a coffee at our favourite cafe - Tommy was at the gym. Then we were all at home in time for Tommy to pack up and to have lunch before we took him to the station so he could get the train to Zurich. He is flying to Amsterdam for the weekend where he is staying with two university friends who have internships there for a few weeks this summer. This is the station and the extra is Tommy saying goodbye. We love Swiss trains - they are punctual, they are spotlessly clean, they are comfortable and quiet - and they always work regardless of the weather, unlike the British trains that don't work if it is snowing, too cold, too hot, or there are leaves on the line due to autumn....that's if they are even working at all and the staff are not striking.

Gavin and I went to get a few groceries after we saw Tommy off, and then Gavin did some work while I walked Xena. Then at 4pm we went to play 9 holes of golf. It was still dry, I thought we would be rained out but we had a good 9 holes and it only started raining as we were finishing on the 9th.

A quiet evening at home tonight, we will continue watching The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem
