The six wives of Henry VIII, he's there too but skulking at the back. The tomb of his last wife Katherine Parr, who survived him, is at Sudeley Castle near Winchcombe  which is where we visited today, well what else does one do on their birthday? My choice then and an excellent one too.

As you might know, Winchcombe was at one time the capital of the Saxon kingdom of Mercia. Hailes Abbey is also close by and the town was very important and influential

We joined the Historic Houses Association a few months ago and have visited a few of the places which are included with membership and Sudeley is one of them. It's drenched in history, far too much to include in my blip.

The extra is a copy of the Execution Warrant of King Charles I, which by pure coincidence is of great interest to me as yesterday I began reading a novel by  Robert Harris called 'Act of Oblivion' which is about the hunt for two of those signatories who fled to New England when the monarchy was restored in 1660.

Anyway, here endeth today's history lesson and have a great, but probably wet, weekend x
