Himmeltreppen

Kettwig is built on a river bank (actually 2 river banks, seeing as it spreads over both sides of the Ruhr) and then uphill which ensures our house will never flood (Europe's in deep doodoo (of the very watery kind) if the river level's ever high enough to reach my front door) but this vertical change also means there are many steps in the area, when there are a great many in one stretch the kids call them "himmeltreppen" - stairway to heaven, a sweet name for a hard workout.

The biergarten sign leads through the building on the right which is a teeny tiny pub with a terrace overlooking the river from up high, would be a nicer place to go were it not for the number of smokers in the country.
