The water wheel

We had planned to visit MrM's sister and her family in Blackpool today, but postponed it so as not to pass on my cold to the entire family. (Almost certainly just a head cold - a Covid test was negative.)

Instead, a mooch around Hebden Bridge in the afternoon. The town was much more crowded than anticipated as it was Steam Punk weekend, and there was a vintage fair too. All the car parks were full, so MrM park on the roadside a considerable distance from the centre of town, and we walked in. Lots of interesting independent shops, so we spent a while window shopping before going in to the Innovations cafe, where there was space enough to keep my germs to myself. The orange and almond cake was deliciously tangy! On the way back to the car a pleasant walk beside a short stretch of the canal (extra, taken from a bridge over the canal).

The Innovations building, an old mill, has an interesting history which you can read about here. Apparently it's the oldest building in Hebden Bridge, and is now powered entirely by 'green' energy - water and solar power - rather than relying on the National Grid. The working water wheel can be seen from the cafe.
