From Bar le Duc to Verdun

We left too soon this morning.  Never once thought about stocking up on baguettes for the road.  We only had two apples left in the bag and we only just found out.
There was absolutely nothing to buy along the way in the many villages through which we cycled.  Even at the abbey, where we wanted to take a break with a cup of delicious double espresso, only the beautiful church was open.
It was only at the end of our trip here in Verdun where we could satisfy our hunger at a crêperie with a plat de jour and the desired espresso.

Verdun, by the way, is a city on the river Maas.  We were driving in an area similar to where we live.  We are now on the other side of the Ardennes.
