Water lily and gum tree

We’re staying for a few nights near Maryborough, a historic town north of Brisbane. We’re in a BnB on the outskirts of town. On the property is a small ‘lagoon’,  a backwater of the Mary River, shown in today’s photo.

I wondered about the origin of the name Mary for the river and the town. Wikipedia tells me that they are named after the wife of colonial governor Charles Fitzroy. Lady Mary was first-born child of Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond.  Both those names are familiar from where we live at Lennox Head near the Richmond River, five hours drive south of here.
