Now, as I see it......

Sheringham Lifeboat Day

Today was the annual 'Lifeboat Day' at Sheringham.  We went over fairly early to watch the demonstrations by the crew but didn't wait until after lunch when there was to be a performance by the 'Sheringham Shantymen'.  The Sheringham lifeboat is a 'Type 85' which has an inflatable surround; although it doesn't have a shelter for the crew it is much faster and more manoeuvrable than the traditional lifeboats.

My collage shows the lifeboat being launched; with the specialist tractor lowering it down the ramp there is around £1m worth of equipment there and of course, the lifeboat service gets no public money and survives solely on donations.  The second shot shows the lifeboat floating off the trailer to head off to 'rescue' one of the crew who had swum out to sea earlier.  The third shot shows the boat reversing back onto its trailer and finally, a shot of it together with the more traditional lifeboat from Cromer, together with its small tender.

An enjoyable morning and I hope that they have managed to raise plenty of money from sales and collections through the day.
