Rushing

For the last day of the UCI World Championships, I returned to Glasgow. The day began with a plan: to watch the finals of the BMX racing, return to the centre of Glasgow to see the end of the women's road race, and then catch the 16:38 train to Euston - en route to Oxford. Since Y is also going to the conference, and I had two tickets for the BMX racing, I suggested she come along.

Thanks to a combination of Y being late, the left luggage at Queen Street only taking cash, and two buses being cancelled due to the cycling, it needed an Uber and then a swift walk to cover the final few miles to the BMX stadium... just in time to see the last race - the men's elite final!

Afterwards, everything went smoothly as we returned to the city centre and watched the riders going around the circuit. The atmosphere was good, and we shared a fish supper. To save time later, we got our cases during the last lap. After Kopecky passed us on her way to gold, we headed for the closest crossing point to Glasgow Central station. However, all the crossing points were closed "until the end of the race". Time ticked by, and riders kept coming through. Seven minutes before our train was due to leave, the crossing was opened and we ran through the crowd to the station. It was only 100m away, so we were soon strolling up the platform with 5 minutes to spare!
