Swallows and Amazons

Lynne took us to the Windermere Jetty Museum today. The rain was torrential as we drove there, and it was good to get indoors!
The museum is fascinating! The historical boats are restored on site in their workshop and we had a great explanation of the current work from their engineer. Most of the vessels are restored to full usage and go back on the water to take passengers once more, although some of the really decayed ones are preserved as historic examples..
The boathouse has some beautiful vessels, including Swallow and Amazon from the Arthur Ransome children’s novels which were centred on the Lakes.
The water speed record craft are on display, and you can take a trip on Windermere - though we didn’t as the weather was shocking!
A special exhibition at the moment is a 3D map of the northern Lake District all built from Lego! It’s truly remarkable!
