Final night

It's become a bit of a tradition to do something special on the last day of any holiday, but that didn't happen this time. I woke with nasty back pain and spent most of the day on our little private terrace with my back to the sun, relying on the natural heat to bring relief.

Carl went walkabout and explored some new parts of Faro while I used location sharing on Google Maps to keep tabs on him. Siestas were called for afterwards, and it was going on for 10pm by the time we ventured out. We grabbed a bite to eat at a place near the apartment. Its main offering is a traditional Portuguese offering which are like mini pizzas served with a wide choice of different toppings. We 'd been intrigued by this place each time we passed it, and were looking forward to trying it out.

It turned out to be a disappointment, so there was no option but to walk further up our street to what we'd been referring to as 'the ice-cream place' because all its umbrellas bore a distinctive and familiar logo. Another holiday tradition is to down a pastis or two, which we did. We finished the night with a couple of Amarguinhas. Out tuk-tuk driver from Tavira introduced us to this rather lovely almond-based drink, which is best served over ice with fresh lemon juice.

Our last night in Faro (and in Portugal) ended at 12:30 am or so.

p.s. The actual blip is a view into a colourful souvenir shop which we passed by on our way to 'the ice-cream place'.
