Heracleuem Known as Cow Parnsnip

Carl Linnaeus  described this genus Heracleum in 1753. The name derives from the Greek mythological hero Heracles,

Quite plentiful in ‘The Policies’ this year. Our ‘fine feathered friends’ certainly like the seeds of this herb. The flower heads can be coated in batter and deep fried. They are very tasty.

Now that the mixed species lawn has been tamed it is now the period to remove the various wild plants such as these which have grown to a height of 1.5 metres..

It is not going to be done today as I am busy planning out a tour of the Breadalbane sculpture trail which Pat and I will explore one day this coming week.
