Puffin at Sumburgh Head

If I had to choose one bird species as my favourite it would be the puffin, so it was nice that our wildlife holiday on Shetland began with a walk to the RSPB reserve at Sumburgh Head.

Puffins have had a hard time lately and numbers are down substantially, so I wouldn't have been surprised not to see any. There were plenty there though and I came away with countless puffin photos.

I am publishing this blip nearly a week after the event because the holiday has been so hectic, and I realise only now how lucky we were on this day. We paid a second visit to Sumburgh Head today and there was hardly a puffin in sight.
