Step we gaily

... all the way down the Scotsman Steps.

These 104 steps were originally built as a public link between North Bridge and the Waverley Station entrance in Market Street in 1899 as part of the construction of the Scotsman building.

As part of the restoration of the steps in 2010 Martin Creed was commissioned to create a piece of public art and transform the stairs. This is the result. Titled 'Work No 1059' every step is made of a different, luxurious marble slab each one individually shaped and fitted.

This is just a small section at the top of the stairs next to the entrance to what is now The Scotsman hotel. I love it. Makes you want to dance all the way down...
