a lifetime burning

Geometry

There's a bit of a choice for you today.  For those of a nervous disposition, or if you just don't like spiders, then here's a shot of the wonderful geometry that is an artichoke. With the narrow depth of field that I've chosen here to allow sufficient softness to the flower, it almost doesn't look real.

For today's trip, Cathy and I went to Westbury Court Garden in Westbury on Severn.  It's a one of few surviving examples of a 17th-century Dutch water garden in the UK.  It's not particularly big, but it's beautifully maintained by the National Trust gardening team, many of whom are volunteers.

For those of you with a stronger stomach there's a life and death struggle in the extra.  A spider has just caught something tasty in its web and is busy subduing it.  I think it's some sort of ichneumonid, but I wouldn't try to guess which.
