Relics in an Urn

It’s been a quiet day today, which I have spent recovering from a poor night and dealing with the various arthritis pains which are popping up all over the place.

We’re looking forward to a family visit soon, during which no doubt a very excited birthday girl will be telling us all about her day, and her presents, and receiving one from us as well.

I took the tripod round the house for a bit of a play this afternoon and thought this shot of a lamp we bought in the Lakes many years ago from Gordon Fox’s Kentmere studio beautifully illustrated this verse from Wordsworth’s poem:

…. or in sequestered lanes they build,
Where, till the flitting bird's return,
Her eggs within the nest repose,
    Like relics in an urn.

From "A Wren’s Nest" by William Wordsworth
