Out and About

New Sedgwick Gunpowder Works

"New" in that these were built in about 1857 and produced gunpowder until 1935.  They replaced the  "old" works  on the other side of the river, which were in operation from about 1768.  This  Grade 2 listed building  and lots more ruins on the site are in a pretty poor state surrounded by a caravan park . I'd taken Mr P for a flat walk along the river to show him some gritty Kendal history that he'd not seen before. I also  removed some Himalayan Balsam from a ruin by the river to stop it seeding and took it home to put in the bin.
