Out and About

Ainslie Pier

The remains of Ainslie Pier in Ulverston,  last used in 1939.  Built of tipped slag in 1890 from the nearby iron and steel works so that boats could be loaded from this channel .  Morecambe Bay has silted up since so ships can no longer navigate to Ulverston. I was orienteering around here this evening,  exploring the area for the first time. An industrial archaeologists wonderland
