Pyramiden

We anchored overnight a Scanbukta - where it was a beatiful sunny evening and we sat on the deck for hours watching a group of "glampers" being delivered (by boat) to some tents set up on shore. (1st extra). I wouldn't like to sleep in a tent in polar bear country!
In the morning we sailed to Pyramiden, a mostly abandoned Russian ex-mining settlement. It is now run by a state-owned private (!) Russian company called Arcticugol, and there a 16 people there in the summer offering tours, meals, and even a hotel for tourists. It's an astonishing place, much of it abandoned soon after the fall of the Soviet Union, some  of the buildings are decayed and vandalised, others are well preserved, if frozen in the past. The young Russians were friendly and eager to talk. It's a photographer's paradise, I could fill up a years' worth of pictures from just our one day there.
