Boat Extraction

A sure sign that summer is drawing to an end is, people begin to take their boats out of the water to prepare them for winter storage.

There are no boat ramps in Point Roberts, so boater’s options are to drive or sail their boat to Canada, or have it extracted on this marina boat hoist.

I could never understand what the diving platforms on the right of the hoist were for. They seem quite high and the water relatively shallow. I had to think laterally…never easy for me…and I did come up with their use, even though I have never seen them used.

What are the platforms for?
