A winning scarecrow!

Today it was our allotment social and there were also a few classes to enter for both produce and a few other things.

We entered the scarecrow competition for the first time and came first! The scarecrow had to be named and be of a theme of one’s choice…hence Gardening Granny! The friend who I share the plot with works in a charity shop so she was able to get some clothes which would otherwise have been thrown out as unsuitable for resale.  Our scarecrow is sitting down as that meant we did not have to do any woodwork to make a frame!
The grandchildren were delighted to accept a very nice rosette and a certificate from one of our local councillors. The grandchildren also got first prize for the Plot in a Box ( blipped on 31 August a few days ago) .  Our blackberries got no prizes as there were lots of really nice raspberries in the soft fruit class. However I did get first prize for both my flower arrangements, as last year!  The other people seem to just plonk flowers in a vase and not actually arrange them!

So good results. We also had cakes and coffees from the cafe which is open each Sunday run by volunteers.  But we did not partake of the barbecue but came home for lunch. A very warm day in the sun so nice to get home and have a rest.
