Feed me!

I went out for a morning walk, before the heat built up (how odd to find myself writing that phrase, especially in September).  I walked to a pond where kingfishers can often be seen, but today they'd clearly had a better offer elsewhere.
The moorhen parents were busy though.  There were chicks from several broods, ranging from the still-small- and-fluffy to the nearly grown-up. Reading up about moorhens later, I learned both that the monogamous parents jointly raise and feed the chicks, and that older 'sibling' chicks help with the rearing of subsequent broods during the summer.  Model birds really :-)
