Komorebi

I had a walk first thing this morning before picking J up from the hospital for the day. The light filtering through the trees by the loop line was beautiful.

I understand that in Japanese this light filtering through trees is called “Komorebi”. I find the words that exist in other languages that don’t have a specific translation fascinating. It says a lot about how people view the world. When I lived in Vietnam one of my favourite phrases was “di choi” which could be used whenever you were going anywhere or doing something for pleasure rather than a specific purpose. So anything from a stroll in the park, a drink with friends, a mooch round the shops to a day trip sightseeing could be “di choi”.
