British Normandy Memorial

After breakfast we visited the market in the square opposite the hotel: from homemade jam to oysters and everything in between including point of lay chickens!
We then headed out to Arromanches site of the Mulberry Harbour followed by Gold Beach which now the British Normandy Memorial lies above. Every one of the 21000 plus lost in the days from June 6th is recorded. So many names…
Each beach has a sign showing the features of the landing, I like this scene with the hay bales beyond. Life goes on, thanks to D Day.
We then headed to Juno ( Canadian landings ) the beach is a sailing club, the cemetery is inland in a field - beautifully peaceful.
Then we went to Ouistreham for lunch and onto Pegasus Bridge and the Airborne division museum which was really interesting.
Finally we went to look at Sword beach- no signs but a huge stretch full of people enjoying the late summer sun. Perfect.
“They gave their today for our tomorrow”.
