Southern Hawker dragonfly

There’s been plenty of dragonflies on blip recently and I make no apologies for another one and my first of the year.

We had finished breakfast when this magnificent insect flew through the conservatory door. It flitted around for a while then settled on the window frame for several minutes. I wonder if it was newly emerged? I watched it brush its face as if was smartening itself up to face the world.

It wasn’t keen to leave so we gently caught it and sent it on its way. It was such a privilege to share a few moments in the presence of this most spectacular of creatures.
