Quiet night in Flam

Flam is a small Norwegian town of around 500 people, at the end of Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the vast Sognefjord.

It’s quiet now, but when we arrived around mid-afternoon there was a monstrous cruise ship docked here, the MSC Euribia, which is one of the world’s largest ships able to carry over 6,000 passengers. We breathed a sigh of relief when we checked in to our hotel, right by the dock, and were told it would depart shortly. We whiled away the time until that happened in the micro brewery, shown in the first extra.

We travelled here from Oslo by train: the first 5 hours on the mainline to Bergen changing at Myrdal for the Flamsbana mountain railway which trundles slowly downhill, from nearly 1000 metres above sea level to the shore of the fjord. The second extra shows impressive alpine scenery west of Myrdal.
