Lake Como and Varenna

Today we intended having a quiet day in Milano (but we should have known better as we don't really do quiet days on holiday!) and taking a trip to Lake Como tomorrow.  However, the forecast was for rain tomorrow, and as the sun was shining this morning , we decided "carpe diem,"and instead took the train to Como. Here we were able to book tickets on a slow boat on the  lago. It turned out a wonderful, nearly three hour cruise, as we zig zagged across the lake, calling at all the little villages, perched on the steep sided hills surrounding the lake.  We alighted at Varenna at 6pm as this village had been highly recommended to us. It is indeed a very attractive unspoiled place and we enjoyed a supper of pikeperch in a very good restaurant before taking a stroll beside the lake listening to the relaxing sound of the water lapping against the rocks. My blip is a view looking down one of the steep paths from the village to the lake.  We caught a train back to Milan at 8.45pm It was a surprisingly busy train with  lots of lively, very attractive, well-dressed young people also boarding at Varenna. We couldn't decide if they had come from a party or were going to one! (Perhaps the day was one very long party? )We arrived back at the apartment at 10.30pm. exhausted, after a full but most enjoyable day. No late night party for us!! Hope the youngsters enjoyed theirs!
