CannyScot's Day

Preston Mill

A dull, drizzly day

Our last day, and on our way home we stopped at Preston Mill, which is reckoned to have been the first Mill in Scotland.

When you first see Preston Mill you might think you’ve taken a step back in time. With its curious Dutch-style conical roof, the mill is an architectural oddity.

Preston Mill was used commercially until 1959 and was the region’s last working watermill. The Guided tour revealed the gruelling nature of the miller’s work, from heavy lifting to dealing with floods, mice and dust.

We went for lunch at nearby Seaton Garden Centre and Nursery. The lunch was lovely and was a nice end to our five day break.
