Old Glory

Today is Flag Day in the United States (June 14th). The day is set aside once a year to commerate the adoption of the American Flag. The Flag features 13 red and white stripes, one for each of the original colonies, and 50 stars - each symbolizing one of 50 states. Officially, the colors and shapes on the flag have no specific symbolism, but folklore would have that the stripes represent sunshine rays and the star represent the heavens, the highest place to which an individual could aim to reach.

In honor of the Flag Day, I give you the Pledge of Allegiance:
"I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
