Preening school

As I walked to the bank at lunchtime I passed the water of Leith and spotted this brood. Initially they were swimming but by the time I walked round the path they were all on this plank preening themselves.

The adult was showing them what to do then seemed to watch over them as they tried it out for themselves. Made me wonder if this was a boarding school?
