Astemeria infection

A few years ago I planted a gift of an orange Astemeria. It spreads! Not just on the surface but up to 18 inches deep in the soil. What was a pleasant small splash of colour has over time become a bank invading the border.

So a major effort to dig up everything I could find. Even during the third turn over of the soil bits of root would appear. Like bindweed it has adapted the skill of breaking the root easily and like dandelions any small piece will spread.

The area is now planted with sweet pea. I hope not to be able to blip a photo of the Astemeria in flower later this summer. But I fear I will!

This was the second full bucket of roots out of a 1.5 m sq plot!
