Riksarkivet

At one of the offices of the National Archives, or Riksarkivet. In the morning, a tour had been arranged for the attendees of the conference DH also attended, and I was invited to go along. I reasoned it was something most visitors to Stockholm wouldn’t see.

It was more a presentation about the history of the archive, and a small exhibit about one of the kings of Sweden. The Archive has been in existence since 1618 so there was a fair bit of ground to cover. The current building opened in 1968 and has 6 floors of depositories underground. And they’re planning new depositories as the old ones always run out of space.

This is a view of the search room, with two researchers and one archivist.

In the afternoon, shoe shopping.
