Here and Now

Edge of Ohio City Neighborhood, Cleveland, OH

MS and I started our shift at Wendy Park on the shore of Lake Erie and enjoyed answering questions from people fishing, especially Nora. We moved on to the old art deco coast guard station, now being used for sailing lessons through the Cleveland Metroparks. We walked along the mouth of the the Cuyahoga River where it meets the lake and talked with more people fishing. We crossed over the newish footbridge to the south side of the river into Ohio City. This part is an old industrial neighborhood with some limited public and private housing and empty warehouses.  Lots of interesting architecture and beauty in the midst of industry.

The scene above is from the Cleveland Foundation Centennial Trail Lake Link. We didn’t walk that way because the trail is closed for while the red swing gate for boats on the river remains under repair.

Some items of interest, clockwise from top left:
Extra 1: New Sherwin Williams headquarters being built downtown, new footbridge to/from Wendy Park/fka Whiskey Island, old coast guard station, Nora.
Extra 2: Historic and new architectural features at Fathom (on Center St. just north of the Superior Viaduct), a private residential garden under the viaduct, Superior Viaduct.
Extra 3: Funny things seen in the flats! The guy practicing his chipping pulled his car over at the empty lot. MS was very upset seeing the dog chained to the back of the motorcycle. Not safe at all!

We finished with lunch at Nate's Deli on W. 25th Street.  Yum!
