The Apple Core and the Bird


There was once an apple core who lived in a garbage dump. He was very dirty and smelly, because he had been thrown away by a boy who had eaten his flesh.
He wished he could be clean and fresh again.

One day, a bird came flying over the dump. He saw the apple core and swooped down and grabbed him with his beak.

The apple core was scared. He thought he was going to die.
But instead of eating him, the bird took him to a nearby pond. He washed him with his beak and made him shiny and smooth.
The apple core was surprised. He asked the bird why he did that.

The bird said that he liked apples, but he didn’t like dirty ones. He said that he wanted to make the apple core look nice and tasty.

The apple core thanked the bird for his kindness.

The bird smiled and said, “You’re welcome.”

He then ate him.
