As waratahs bloom, the petal pattern evolves from a tightly packed deep red affair to a loosely packed pink and finally to a spread out white-tipped arrangement as seen above. Different parts of the flower evolve at different times, depending on the variety, where it is located with respect to the prevailing sun and numerous other such factors, unknown to the likes of me.  

Interestingly, I did very little to this pic in PP, other than to apply the desaturation brush. The reds and greens looked SO vivid, I didn't think that folks would believe them.
