Sgwarnog: In the Field

River

I walked down to the nature reserve at lunchtime and found the river almost in spate which surprised me. I guess there has been more rain in the higher reaches of Airedale than here.

Later, I headed to Guiseley for the second time this week, this time to see the U18s in an FA Youth Cup tie against Gainsborough Trinity.

The Guiseley Academy is well regarded. Several players have progressed through to league football in recent seasons and they’ve had a few good runs in this competition, including successes against league opposition. They took charge of this tie from the off, were a goal up inside three minutes and ended up winning 7-0. It could have been more if not for a good display from the Gainsborough keeper. Guiseley’s number 11, Jack Mason, caught the eye with four goals - one to watch for the future.
