Poundland

Dartmoor has many pounds constructed using drystone, granite walls. Animals grazing on the open moor were rounded up and held in these structures. Sometimes this was for protection but they were also commonly used in former times for animals found grazing illegally on the moor. This image was taken inside one of the pounds near Laughter Tor, east of Princetown. There probably wasn't much laughter from people who had their animals impounded and had to pay to have them released. This made me think how similar, but far worse, themes of entitlement and grievance seem to be played out in conflicts throughout the world.
