One Step at a Time

The Hilly

Day 162 and almost the first time I have deliberately gone out 'on a shoot'. Most of our clubs Time Trials are on fast, busy, flatish roads but once a year, when the light nights permit it we head for the hills around villages like Baxterley, Hurley and Furnace End in between Birmingham and Coventry. This is the kind of course that gets described as 'undulating', 'lumpy', 'testing' and so on. I've ridden this course myself a good many times so know the pain that M here is going through. This is one of the last hills of the 23 miles and is probably about 3 or 4 miles from the finish. By this point your legs are like lead and screaming nooooooo !! but you have to keep them moving. The final twist on the course is a 1 in 7 DOWNHILL stretch where you're hanging on for grim death as you shoot across the finish line. Schoolboy errors tonight included not making sure my batteries were charged and having the camera at an angle so some of the riders looking like they were going downhill which they most definately weren't at this point.
