Reflections in the Wet

The rain may have stopped at 11am this morning after 41 hours of continuous effort to flood the land but its departure has left behind a depressingly damp miasma on the city.
While it was still raining I met with one of the Merry Widows to catch up on each other’s news, and by the time that had happened the rain had stopped and I got home in the dry to remove my 2nd C cake from the oven - no cracked top on this one. Now all I have to do is wrap it up in grease proof paper  and feed it brandy once in a while and put marzipan on the top- no icing as everyone seems to remove it nowadays.

The Elgin crew arrived wet and cold later than planned last night. They had had a busy time looking round University departments on Open Day. As people who have been at Edinburgh Uni know, the departments are widely spread in the city and buses are involved which means waiting in the rain at the various pick up points . Nevertheless it’s amazing what several glasses of Prosecco plus a glass or two of wine can do to initiate the will to live again and so it was a cheery birthday gathering in Söderberg with pizzas to order. It was even better that Finlay aged 17 can drive but can’t legally drink and so was able to drive them back to their hotel.
