Evening stroll

Citizens of Siracusa in Sicily took advantage of a balmy Sunday evening for a stroll through the Piazza Duomo. The Cathedral was rebuilt in the early 1700s in Baroque style following a devastating earthquake in 1693. Much of the Cathedral is ancient - it was originally a Greek Temple (6th century BC), around which in the 8th century AD was built a Christian church, which was later converted into a mosque which, under the Normans, became a church once more.
