Start of the race

We are staying in Forrest Hall in the University of WA, alongside the Swan River. Just across Matilda Bay is the Royal Perth Yacht Club. This afternoon there was a big yacht race. At the start the scene seemed, to a landlubber like me, to be total confusion with yachts milling about willy-nilly. Then, miraculously, order appeared and they all headed off downriver.

Knowing nothing about sailing, I thought I should check that I was using words correctly and so looked up the meaning of yacht. I found that the definition is: a hole in the water into which you pour money. I think I'm getting the hang of this.
