Finding Thyme

Had a lovely day today. Another warm and sunny summer's day.

24 degrees!

After two more trips to the tip with more rubble we diverted to the quaint village of Diddlebury, and dropped in at Delbury Hall Walled Garden and Nursery. They are closing the garden and there is a sale on. Every plant for four pounds. (I should say each plant for four pounds..)

We spent forty pounds on a carfull of plants for the new rockery.

The walled garden is wonderful.

Turn of the century, tumble down, overgrown and reeking of history. Did you know the man who invented garden shears was a pioneer in cutting hedge technology?

We know the current stewards at the garden, very knowledgable and helpful with advice on planting, soil types, maintenance and care of our purchases. Shame they are retiring, no plans yet for the nursery to continue. It would be so sad if no one else carries it on

We also found out that Sherlock Holmes was an avid gardener.

Dr Watson once asked him what he was planting..

The reply..

"A lemon tree my dear Watson..."
