Well Worth The Climb

We were woken by the bells of the Duomo this morning and were up and out before breakfast to go up the bell tower as advised by a friend who was there last week. It was good advice as it was cooler, quieter and the light was much better. The views from the top were well worth the 414 steps climbed.

Afterwards we had a lovely breakfast back at the hotel before heading out for a wander and as we came upon one of the wine windows it would have been rude not to have partaken.

We finished the by climbing up into the dome to view the frescoes depicting the Last Judgement. 463 steps this time and another fabulous view.

Fortunately the train journey back to Siena was uneventful and we were able to join the men for a lovely bbq at the apartments.
